An agreement on the renovation of the Sistine Chapel was signed between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Vatican on the initiative of Foundation President Mehriban Aliyeva on July 2, 2014. Built in 1473-1481, the Sistine Chapel is considered one of the finest examples of Renaissance art in the Vatican. During their visit to Italy in February 2020 President Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, and their daughter Leyla Aliyeva got acquainted with the work that has been done in the Sistine Chapel.
